Event Description:

This talk will cover research on the development of Callous-Unemotional (CU) Traits, which are codified as Limited Prosocial Emotions in the DSM-5. The talk will begin with a definition of CU traits and an overview of their clinical presentation. Then most of the talk will review research demonstrating the role parenting plays in the development of this outcome with discussion of implications for treatment.

Presenter Info:

Luke W. Hyde is an Professor in Psychology and Chair of the Clinical Science Area, with appointments at the Institute for Social Research and Poverty Solutions Center at the University of Michigan. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in the State of Michigan. With training in clinical and developmental psychology, as well as affective neuroscience, his research focuses on understanding the development of risk and resilience in children and families. This research has focused on topics including how nature and nurture interact across development, the development of antisocial behaviors and child psychopathy, and the ways in which poverty-related stressors impact brain and behavioral development.  His work has been recognized by several early career awards including the Janet Taylor Spence Award for Transformative Early Career Contributions from the Association for Psychological Science and the Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contributions to Psychology from the American Psychological Association. He is a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science.
